Shari Belafonte (Born September 22, 1954) is the second daughter of Marguerite and Harry Belafonte, an Actor and Singer. Her parents got separated and as of then, her mom was still pregnant with her. Shari has three brothers.
She attended the Windsor Mountain School in Lenox, Massachusetts, the Buxton School in Williamstown, Massachusetts, the Georgetown Day School in Washington, DC, and Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts before transferring to Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama.
A Scottish Jamaican mother and an Afro-Jamaican father gave birth to her paternal grandmother in Jamaica. The child of a black mother and a Dutch-Jewish father of Sephardic Jewish ancestry, her paternal grandfather was also born in Jamaica. Harry Jr. grew up as a Catholic.
Career
Shari Belafonte is a very beautiful woman and as such, she started her career as a model in the 80s. She became a cover girl model and appeared in Calvin Klein Jeans.
In the Movies Time Walker and If You Could See What I hear, She made her first film debut (1982).
After then, she served as a production assistant in Public Tv on the East Coast before relocating to Los Angeles, where she started working with Hanna-Barbera.
It was also noted that she has covered over 300 magazines as of 2015 due to her modeling and commercial assignments.
She was also featured in a Tv horror comedy movie titled Speed Zone, The Midnight Hour. In that movie, she sang a song titled “Get Dead”.
In 1984, she was signed by Spelling as Julie Gilette in the drama series titled Hotel. During the five years of acting Hotel, She also kicked off her music career. Belafonte began her music career by signing a contract with Metronome Records, where she released two studio albums, The Eyes of Night in 1987 and Shari in 1989.
Belafonte made her Broadway debut in Tamara in 1990, playing the title role in the long-running Los Angeles production. Soon after, she landed the role of Dr. Laura Wingate in the USA Network drama series Beyond Reality, which aired for two seasons from 1991 to 1993.
In the 1990s, she co-starred in several made-for-television films, such as French Silk (1994), starring Susan Lucci, The Heidi Chronicles (1995), starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Babylon 5: Thirdspace (1998), and Loving Evangeline (1998). (1999). She furthermore co-hosted the syndicated series Lifestyles (1994-95) with Robin Leach and Shari Belafonte, an updated version of Leach’s signature program, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. On NYC Media in 2006, she hosted a travel show called “Travels In Mexico And The Caribbean With Shari Belafonte.”
She also did other jobs including voiceovers and moderating. In 4 episodes of Hey Arnoid!, she did the voice of Gerald’s mother, Mrs. Johanssen, and Diana Cruz in The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest.
Shari has also been the spokesman for different coperation including Bally’s International Health and Fitness, Diet System. Shari Belafonte became the Int’ spokesman for the starlight Children’s Foundation.
